I have won numerous awards in my own country. I won the John Scott Medal. The Edward Longstreth Medal. American Association of Engineering Societies John Fritz Medal. Navy Distinguished Service Medal. First recipient of the Edison Medal that was named to honor me and was also awarded to me. Life Magazine held a poll which declared me as the 15th Greatest American of all times.

I won the Technical Grammy Award in 2010 for my motion picture invention.

French and Swedish Honors

Awarded (January 1960 to February 1960)

In 1881, I was titled the Officer of the Legion of Honour (Légion d'honneur) by the French ruler. I was also titled Chevalier in the Legion in 1879, and a Commander in 1889 by the French ruler. These were the early accolades from foreign countries. I was also the winner of Matteucci Medal. I was elected as a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

The one invention that over shadowed other work was the light bulb.
I made the bulb that used the same amount of current and a longer life.

Motion Picture

Novelty Invention April 1960 to Present 66 years & 3 months

I worked on the motion picture camera 'kinetograph'. I teamed up with a photographer who worked on the optical development while I worked on the electric side.
This kinetoscope was used in public screenings as well.

Electric Power Distribuion

Invention February 1960 to Present 66 years & 5 months

Developed an electric utility to use for lights instead of gas alternatives.
This was an easier alternative and also cheaper. A distribution company was used to provide electric supply.

Carbon Telephone Transmitter

Improved Microphone January 1960 to Present 66 years & 6 months

I worked on improving the microphone that was used for the telephones of that time.
The carbon microphone transmitted clearer sound and also sent a stronger current.
This carbon microphone was used in Western Union.

Experimentation

I liked to experiment with different chemicals and substances. It cost me a lot but also gave me the knowledge to achieve what I later did in life.

Associated Press

Worked for the Associated Press and used my journalistic qualities to contribute to the bureau news wire.

Telegraph Operator

As a young boy I was a telegraph operator. It was the initial job that made me think of the current and transmissions. I worked as a telegraph operator for quite a few years.
